The opening of Islık Çalan Adam (‘The Whistling Man’), the first exhibition to be mounted at the Ara Güler Museum, will coincide with Ara Güler’s 90th birthday on 16th August 2018. Güler is to be present in person at the opening.

The main focus of this exhibition of the work of Ara Güler, who has come to prominence on the international scene with his photographs of Istanbul and Türkiye, is on his role as a creator of visual narrative not just in the realm of photography, but in a number of other fields as well. His keen interest in literature, the cinema and the theatre began in childhood, and throughout his career he has been engaged not just in the work of producing photographs, but also in that of writing, recording and communicating in other media. Visitors to the exhibition are encouraged to take all the various sides of his multi-faceted creative personality into account when arriving at an understanding and appreciation of his output as a visual storyteller.
