Ara Güler Museum
Bir Avuç Güzel İnsan is an exhibition of portrait photographs of
important literary figures – some in Turkey and some in the wider world
– that Ara Güler took as a result of his interest in literature, which began
at an early age. He formed lasting friendships with a number of writers,
and the exhibition sheds light on this aspect of his life.
It contains
photographic records of meetings with writers at Sabahattin Eyüboğlu’s
flat in the ‘Bronz’ apartment building, at the house of Fikret Adil, in
Bedri Rahmi Eyüboğlu’s workshop in Narmanlı Han, at the offices in
Cağaloğlu of Yeditepe magazine and at Samim Kocagöz’ house in İzmir.
In addition, the exhibition features portrait photographs of Nâzım
Hikmet that have never before been shown to the public, plus darkroom
prints and documents of various kinds; among these are letters that Ara
Güler and his literary friends wrote to each other over the years. Also
included are pieces of writing, some illustrated, that were sent to him by
these friends, and that were displayed on the walls of his house.
