This exhibition is centred around ‘A Parting on the Quayside in Galata’, one of Ara Güler’s best-known photographs, and the story behind it. Also on display are some nostalgia-provoking black-and-white photographs of the Galata Quay and the area around it, taken by him in the 1950s and 1960s: these consist of real-life scenes from the Galata Bridge and its surroundings, the coastal strip between Karaköy and the Galata Quay, Tophane and the streets leading up to Pera.

Presented in the part of the exhibition entitled ‘In Pursuit of a Moment Captured on Camera’, meanwhile, are documents from the Ara Güler Archives and Research Center relating to the ‘A Parting on the Quayside in Galata’ photograph and the results of a wide-ranging investigation into the question of when it was taken.
