The Ara Güler Museum has continued to bring Ara Güler’s photographs to wider audiences through international exhibitions and collaborations. Following the widely acclaimed exhibitions previously held at Foam Amsterdam and in Plovdiv as part of the International Meetings of Photography, the museum met art lovers once again with its new exhibition, “Istanbul,” at Synthesis Gallery in Sofia.

Events held in parallel with the exhibition included: a presentation on the Ara Güler Archives and Research Center and the Ara Güler Museum at Sofia University on Friday, 24 November at 18:30; a selection of books published throughout Ara Güler’s career presented at Photosynthesis Library on Saturday, 25 November from 16:00 to 18:00; and at 16:30 the same day, a reading from the book “We Will Live After Babylon”. The closing program on 25 January featured a screenings of the documentary “The Whistling Man” and Ara Güler’s own documentary film “Hero’s End”.

Comprising 52 black and white photographs from the Ara Güler archive, the exhibition “Istanbul” was on view at Synthesis Gallery, one of Sofia’s leading photography galleries, from 23 November 2023 to 25 January 2024.
